When I first started writing this blog I was aiming to be the relatable, honest and the trusted food blogger, and that is something I hope I am sticking to. So my dear foodies, I urge you all to please have a conversation with me, if you feel I am not as truthful as I should be. Let’s engage, have some dialogue and try influence each other. So with that said, here is my 2c on Jamie’s Italian South Africa!
The perks of working for a big company (by the way guys, I have a job now), is that they sometimes take you out to really cool restaurants, and I was lucky enough to get to come to Jamie’s. The thing of going to a restaurant that is so popular and well-spoken of, you always get there expecting your life to be completely changed. You are so attentive to detail and waiting for the wow factor, you could almost be a bit unfair on the restaurant. Which I feel is what I almost did when I got there. However, I was mature enough to pull myself towards myself.
It wasn’t as life changing as I thought it would be, but it also doesn’t mean it wasn’t as good. It was enjoyable enough for me to recommend and also go there again. It is a cool family restaurant that serves some really yummy food, and has a nice aesthetic to it.
The best way to get to really decipher how good a restaurant is, is to be able to try a range of foods. But obviously, no one (well not all of us) have that kind of money. However, lucky for me, my company was kind enough to order a range of tappas for starters, mains and dessert. They were incredibly tasty and so well presented, (they have these random tomatoe cans on the table but what they are actually for is to place all the food boards). This may be very ignorant of me but I almost had this assumption that Italian food is strictly all the pastas, but I was pleasantly surprised, there was amazing lamb, salmon, calamari. So full of this amazing taste that I can’t put into words. The pastas are also just as good, but you know, that was kind of expected.
It has a really family oriented vibe to it, which is something I am really into. So if I would suggest who to come here with, it would definitely be your family. It gives you that homey feeling that allows you to be comfortable enough to release all your family secrets, without being afraid of who is listening.
Overall, it is a really enjoyable restaurant, it has a lot of vibes, good food and great aesthetic to offer. You’re not going to call it your favourite restaurant, but you definitely are going to make it one of your regular restaurants.
