My favourite Johannesburg breakfast spot

I have recently discovered that I am really into breakfast. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it is my favorite meal of the day (because you know, lunch over everything) but it really is such a good way to start the day. My relationship with food is extremely personal and intimate. Sometimes it is a good thing, other times, not so much. So when Nice (Parkhurst) served me this amazing breakfast, I felt I had to express my gratitude because it was the perfect start to my day.
If you ever have the opportunity of going out with me, it’s almost annoying when we have to order food because I can be so indecisive. It is so overwhelming when you see so many great things on the menu, but just want them all. So it is amazing that Nice, was smart enough to come up with half portions of your favourite breakfast meals served as one. Which is completely genius, because I was really in the mood for the egg basket, and I was also really in the mood for pancakes, so when I got to have both I was so impressed. I must add, there is also something so amazing about the bacon. I am really into the crispy bacon, because I feel soft bacon just isn’t as good. So when they made this incredibly crispy bacon with the perfect soft, moist (dry crumpets are a joke), I was the worlds happiest lady. The egg basket is also pretty well thought out, it has egg (duh) with bacon, all scooped up in bread. It’s the perfect breakfast kind of meal. So when you put an egg basket, and crumpets (with bacon), you definitely have a winner.
Parkurst is definitely the top 3 areas in Johannesburg regarding restaurants, so it is no surprise when I say that Nice has a really delicious ambiance that goes along with it. It is a really small cute, almost corner café. I like to believe that those are the best restaurants because they give the best type of aura. It’s really intimate, pretty and has a subtle level of class to it. It’s where you want to eat when you want to get away from the concrete jungle, but also subject yourself to an almost romantic intimacy.
One of my closest childhood friends brought us here for a birthday brunch, and I think that was truly the best place to have it. She invited a small group of people, which was perfect because it allowed us all to be able to collectively share chuckles, and feed off everyone’s energy. We ate our brunch, we had some caked, and then washed it down with a glass of champagne. It was truly a special day out for us. So, if you’re ever looking to have a birthday brunch, Nice is definitely a good place to start. Your crowd has to be pretty small, but either than that, it really is the perfect treat.
It would be pretty strange if you’re named your restaurant Nice (though I am not sure if there’s any other foreign language translation to it) and it was underwhelming. I loved every moment I spent there, and I am definitely looking to make it a breakfast spot regular.
